Hello piano lovers. Pianist Keunyoung Song again.

Lots of people ask me that they don't know what to buy when choosing piano VSTs, especially beginners. If you just recognized the beauty of the virtual piano, probably you may wonder what piano VSTs are good to start with, in search of the perfect piano sound.

There are tens of thousands of VSTs in the market ranging from free to a few thousand dollars. Free VSTs are good of course, but only for the beginning. Before considering buying virtual pianos, please keep this in your mind. There is no cheap and good one. But of course, there are reasonable ones to start with. Below are the ones that have a decent sound at a decent price. Very little to lose in case you don't like it.

1. Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand Lite ☞ Check out the full review

 Needless to say. This is the best light version of the virtual piano I have ever played. Price is only 69$ if you purchase it in Sweetwater. It has only "Close mic" position and "Classic Perspective", on the other hand, the full one has the additional "Ambient mic". Even though this one has only "Close" mic, it fully embraces the warmth of the Abbey Road Studio, one of the legendary recording studios in the world. If you have a limited budget under 100$? Definitely go for this.


2. Production Voices Concert Grand Compact ☞ Check out the full review

-Sampler : Sforzando
-Sampled piano : New York Steinway Mode D
-Sound
 Most realistic Steinway sound with this price. The sound itself is superb compared with other light or compact versions of the virtual pianos. The only con for this is the lack of the velocity curve so that you need to mind the default velocity setting when playing.


3. Embertone Walker 1955 Concert D Lite ☞ Check out the full review

-Sampler : Kontakt or Kontakt Player
-Sampled piano : Steinway Mode D
-Sound
 This one has the warmest and sweetest sound I have ever heard among budget virtual pianos. Its sound is sweetened with Embertone's recording technologies. But it has the limited velocity layers so that you need to amend your dynamic when playing. It provides only "Close" mic but it sounds just full and rich only with the close mic. If you are looking for a "Keyscape Steinway version sound"? Go for this.

오늘도 어김없이 가상악기 리뷰로 찾아와 봤습니다. 개별 가상악기에 대한 리뷰가 아닌 묶음 가상악기 소개에 대한 글입니다.

제가 평소에 제일 많이 받는 질문이 가상악기를 처음 시작하고자 하는데 어느 걸로 시작해야 될지 잘 모르겠다는 질문입니다. 충분히 이해합니다. 저도 그랬으니까요. 그래서 이번 포스트에서는 초보자가 시작하기 좋은 Lite 버전 피아노 가상악기들 몇 개 추천하고자 합니다. 실제로 제가 사용중에 있는 악기들이며, 전반적으로 품질도 굉장히 좋습니다. 하지만 싸고 좋은 건 없는 것 아시죠? 물론 가격이 싼 만큼 제약사항도 있습니다. 하지만 가볍게 시작하기 좋으며, 대부분 환불이 안 되는 가상악기 정책 상 설령 맘에 들지 않더라도 버려야 하는 비용이 상대적으로 적습니다.

아래 악기들은 제가 사용한 가상악기 중에 가격도 싸고 소리도 괜찮은 악기들이니 관심 있으신 분들은 한 번 참고해 보시기 바랍니다.

 제가 생각하는 최고의 라이트 버젼 피아노 가상악기입니다. 다른 라이트 버전의 가상악기와 달리 이 악기는 다이나믹도 상당히 좋습니다. Sweetwater에서 69달러면 구입 가능하다보니 초보자들에게 제일 많이 추천하는 가상악기이기도 합니다. 실제로 제 3집 및 4집 앨범을 이 라이트 버전으로 녹음해서 발매하기도 한 만큼 사운드 품질도 일품입니다.

저렴한 가상악기 중에 가장 사실적인 스타인웨이 소리를 내주는 가상악기입니다. 소리 자체가 굉장히 힘이 있고 명료해서 사실적인 스타인웨이 소리를 원하는 분들에게 항상 추천하는 악기입니다. 다만 벨로시티 커브가 별도로 존재하지 않아 다이나믹을 이 악기 기본 세팅에 맞춰야 한다는 점이 다소 아쉽습니다.

가장 최근에 출시된 악기입니다. 기본적으로 굉장히 따뜻하고 스윗한 악기입니다. 가격도 제일 저렴하며, 사운드 자체도 굉장히 묵직해서 엄청난 반응을 이끌고 있는 악기이기도 합니다. 이 악기도 라이트 버전이다 보니 다이나믹이 다소 제한적이기는 하지만 사운드 자체가 일품이기 때문에 저도 자주 사용하는 악기입니다.
